You have a Supplement/Medigap plan: How to determine what you need to pay!

Published by Mary Marshall Team on

  1.  Don’t pay any bill from a medical provider or hospital until you have received your Medicare Summary Notice (MSN). It will tell you how much Medicare will pay and what you might owe and whether or not you have met deductible. At the bottom of the MSN will be codes IE: A for Approved, D for Denied and other Medicare explanations.
  2. You will also get notices from your Supplement company telling you what they are paying. These two documents should reconcile with the amount the Supplement will pay. You will then pay the medical provider or hospital only the difference of what Medicare and your Supplement did not pay only up to what your plan says you owe. IE: Plan G has a $233.00 deductible and that is all you would owe. Plan N has the $233.00 deductible and copays only. Plan High Deductible G you will pay up to $2,490 deductible only. NOTE: If Medicare does not approve then the Supplement plan will not pay.
  3. Health Providers and Hospitals can NOT over bill you beyond what Medicare will allow!

You can sign up for Medicare Summary Notices to come to you faster through email. Just Login to Medicare.gov and sign up for Electronic Medicare Summary Notices (eMSNs).
